How do you know when it’s time to lay down your cards or when it’s time to double down and push through? Whether it’s leaving a job or a relationship, the decision making process itself isn’t something we talk much about.
WISE
What’s the one thing that would make the biggest difference?
The answer isn’t far below the surface in your life. It rarely is. Whether you’re ready yet to admit it to yourself or not. If you’re still and you stop to really listen as you ask yourself the question, it’s probably easy to identify.
The Importance of Personal
Before you can give of yourself, that which is truly personal, you have to know who you are and what you want. It’s sounds simple, but it’s not nearly as easy as it sounds.
Control is Illusory
The natural state of things does not include ordered rows of any kind of living things. Not in a garden, an office, or in your life. It’s easy to forget in modern, western society that our natural state is somewhat wild.
And Back Again… But Differently Too
Here’s part two of my friend Jenn’s story, From Epidemiologist to Bartender… We left her in the last post as she was settling in to her life working at Marble Brewery in Albuquerque. Read her story about swallowing the fear, and making it happen.
From Epidemiologist to Bartender…
This is a guest post by a friend of mine. What I admire most about her is that she’s always been unabashedly clear about who she is. She listens carefully to her internal compass, and then follows it. It’s taken her on some interesting journeys while I’ve know her… This is one of those stories.
Change, Death & Taxes
The saying goes that nothing is certain, but death and taxes. I’d argue that change should be included in that list! We can certainly count on change whether we want it or not… Change has been on the threshold in my life for at least the last 6 months, but I haven’t been able to talk about it. Until now…
Waiting…
How much of your life do you spend waiting? In line at the grocery store, in traffic, or for someone or something to change? Waiting for winter to end and spring to come? Waiting can definitely build anticipation, but does it make the future event any sweeter?
What Motivates You?
Check out Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, by Daniel H. Pink, and I couldn’t recommend it more highly! It’s a well written, entertaining book about a new theory of motivation based largely on autonomy. It’s the kind of book that will truly changed how you think.
Friends, Freedom, & An Analyzed Life
After reading the Art of Travel by Alain De Botton, a popular British philosopher, I’ve become a huge fan. He seamlessly blends the old and the new into an amazingly easy, compelling story on the significance of travel. I recently stumbled across this video featuring De Botton called “Epicurus on Happiness – Philosophy: A Guide to Happiness.”
