This week has been crazy busy with work and preparing to leave for India on Monday, and I can hardly believe it’s already Friday! So, I’ll just share two fun things with you today.
Freezing Temperatures
Most of the country has been in the throes of a freeze this week. Brrr. The cold snap reminded me of an amazing film called Christmas in Yellowstone from the Nature series on PBS. It’s less about Christmas, and more about winter.
When the temperature drops really low, between 0 °C (32 °F) and about −39 °C (−38 °F) and there’s increased relative humidity, water droplets suspended in mid-air can freeze. It’s called diamond dust. This video (1:22 min.) does a great job of showing the twinkling, fairytale-like beauty of diamond dust from the film.

A Fabulous Fox
The fox is commonly portrayed in folklore as a sly and manipulative animal, even dressing up to fool little Red Riding Hood on her way to Grandmother’s house. Below is a snippet of the Christmas in Yellowstone video (3:55 min.) where a red fox is hunting for mice under layers of snow based solely on its hearing.
Because my middle name is Fox (after my grandmother’s maiden name and shared with my nephew and a cousin), I may be a little more intrigued by foxes than most normal people, but the video is definitely worth watching to see the real skill that gave birth to the lore.

Wishing you a fantastic Friday!
