In a little more than 24 hours, I’ll be headed to Egypt! Cairo specifically, via London.
There will be plenty of big firsts on this trip – my first Muslim country, my first spot in Africa and the Middle East, and my first group tour ever. The event (sounds better than tour!) is hosted by Afar Media, publisher of Afar travel magazine.
Our itinerary includes convening in Cairo for a few days of dinner in Egyptian homes, conversations with revolutionaries about the future of Egypt, sunset at the Pyramids, early morning access to the Egyptian Museum, and a visit to Tahrir Square…
And if that’s not enough, I’m also excited to spend a couple of days in London revisiting a few of my favorite touristy spots (Covent Garden, Regent’s Park, the British Museum) and exploring plenty of new spots too (Borough Market and the East End)…
I can’t wrap my head around the fact that it’s been over a decade since I spent a summer in London during college, but I’m definitely looking forward to making up for lost time!
I’d better get back to work now, since there’s still tons to do before I board the plane! But I’ll be posting plenty of stories and pictures (with my first manual camera!) over the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned!
